Ok, that seems pretty definitive!

Sandbox has not been updated since WP 2.6.0 and Scott Wallick, the guy
running it has basically decided to not do it anymore and offered to sell

Thematic is in a way a continuation of Sandbox and actually uses the same
code for the extensive semantic CSS hooks. I am not sure it supports as
many microformats as Sandbox, but it is recommended [2] in the Microformats
site.
I am still a big fan of Sandbox, but it seems the energies and support
behind Thematic are currently the more sustainable/forward-looking option.

Sandbox is discontinued? It doesn't seem to be on either plaintxt [5] or
the project homepage [6]. You sure?
I still
dig it as it it implements lots of sexy microformats [7]out of
the box and is stylable through css alone.
I have no experience with Thematic, it might be god's special child, just
saying I'm not sure sandbox is in a cave with a stone in front.
And I'm willing to come to a pizza party sometime soon. I've got some
wordpress experience if there is any help needed. If not I could set aside
some time to re-dig into getting federation done. It's itching me that we
still can only distribute from add-art.org

If you're starting a theme from scratch you might want to look at Thematic
[9], it's a pretty powerful framework theme - which means you extend it
through a child theme which allow the parent theme to get updates (when WP
updates for example) without having to rebuild the whole theme. It also has
some pretty accessible hooks to only modify what you need (through the
functions.php file) and it makes the whole
development process much more
streamlined and simple. They also have decent documentation there too. I
definitely intend to use it (instead of the discontinued Sandbox) as my
base theme from now on.
Let me know if you're going for it.

Sounds like we're switching. Greg, you still up for implementing one of
your designs?
Anyone else interested in developing the site?
Time for an old fashioned pizza party?
Also, 0.8.3 went out today with small changes for the new FF.
