Sandbox has not been updated since WP 2.6.0 and Scott Wallick, the guy
running it has basically decided to not do it anymore and offered to
sell the domain:

Thematic is in a way a continuation of Sandbox and actually uses the
same code for the extensive semantic CSS hooks. I am not sure it
supports as many microformats as Sandbox, but it is recommended
<http://microformats.org/wiki/wordpress-themes> in the Microformats site.
I am still a big fan of Sandbox, but it seems the energies and support
behind Thematic are currently the more sustainable/forward-looking option.
