[add-art dev] Some Add-Art-Works are better than others...

Got Add-Art running for a while and I thought I'd share my thoughts...

I have been having this discussion with Steve on and off, but looking at
the Tropical set <http://add-art.org/content/tropical> Add-Art-Work
makes me even more convinced of this. The format works well when the
image is very detailed but does not have a centric image or subject. It
is only that with the current design that crops a single image we get
one image cut up to pieces. In the case the whole image is very detailed
in the first place, I think we will get something nice (like in the
example I brought up). When we're getting a cropped image there is
something missing, in most cases that might be a downer, in some cases
(with detailed images) it wouldn't matter, as the crops serve as needed
zoom-ins, a smart artist will use this disadvantage as an actual
advantage and actually hide information in the crops and create a
mysterious composition of ads.

The other option is to spend some time and make unique designs for
different sizes. This will definitely be the way to go, but it is very
time consuming. (I have been thinking of doing that myself, but couldn't
find the time) (yet).

Another interesting take might be pretty ambitious yet promising many
creative possibilities - have html add-art. That would allow me for
example to set a div with a tiled background and a centered png. This
opens tons of options for designs that would react dynamically to the
space they get. But this is soooo 2.0, so yes... forget about it.

Based on the success of the Tropical set, I would say a Hieronymus Bosch
<http://home.actlab.utexas.edu/%7Elitlgirlblue/SoundClass/Bosch.gif> art
would be great! So would an eboy
<http://hello.eboy.com/eboy/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/eby-tokyo-53t.png>
piece! For the sophisticated option, think of Where's Waldo?

Anyway, just my 2 cents, would love to get your thoughts on this... and,
I'll see you at the Rhizome event tomorrow!
