[add-art dev] adding another non-goal

Hey everyone,

I just got an email from a fan of Add-Art saying that he doesn't like
the current show and there was a comment on the forum about it too.
And that reminded me of something.

As you may have seen on the front page of the dev wiki:
http://dev.eyebeam.org/projects/add-art/wiki/Add-Art
Early on I had listed goals and non-goals for the project. These are
intended to be guiding principles we can look to as the project moves
forward - and reference points for people in the future were we all
to be hit by busses. I want to add a non-goal if it's ok with
everyone. Something like...

- People don't have to like the art.

This is part of what I wrote back to the guy after thanking him for
his feedback and a couple other paragraphs of other info.

> It's important to me that we're not putting art out to please
> people. The curators and artists involved shouldn't feel like they
> need to create safe, pleasing decorations for web pages. We want
> contemporary art brought into our everyday lives, and that should
> challenge our ideas of what we like and what art is. Including me.
> Maybe if we had designers, those goals would be different. But Add-
> Art shouldn't become wall-paper. If it's really not for you, you
> can disable Add-Art until our next show comes out on June 19th.

(Out of context it might sound harsh, but I was nice)

I'm asking you because I want this project to be ours, not mine. I
feel like I'm ratifying the constitution a little so I want to make
sure this is ok with everyone, even though I think the spirit of this
concept has been in it since the beginning.

Your comments?

Steve
